old Kure Naval Arsenal
(IHI Marine United Kure Shipyard)
Kure Naval Arsenal established in 1903 developed into the Largest shipbuilding plant of Japanese Imperial Navy. After WWII the shipyard was given to private companies. Now Kure is known as one of the world's leading shipyards.

#1: "Rekishi-No-Mieru-Oka" commands an extensive prospect of the plant.
Leftmost iron roof was constructed to cover YAMATO(1).

#2:We can see lots of old brick buildings.

Nowadays Japanese people re-evaluate industrial heritage. Kure decided to promote old military facilities for tourism and constructed "YAMATO Museum".

Kure focuses "military industry" but Hiroshima (not 25km from Kure) focuses "world peace". I think that is peculiar distinction.

If you are interested in Japanese Navy's legacy, you should visit . . .
