Before WWII Kure is most important port of Japanese Imperial Navy. In Kure City there were many plants especially Kure Naval Arsenal where 100,000 labor worked. Today JMSDF(*1) use military facilities, and private shipbuilders use those shipyards.(photo#7) And the residence of commander is available to the public.

 Japanese Imperial Navy followed the example of British Navy. SAKURAI Kotaro who studied architecture in UK designed British-style house.

1906 built by using timber of the primary residence destroyed by earthquake.
1945 Occupation army requisitioned it. They painted walls white.
1966 Finance Ministry contributed it to Kure City.
1967 open to the public
1995 reconstruction
1998 designated as a cultural asset of national importance.
