There used to be a substantial number of army installations in Hiroshima. This building, now remodeled into a museum, used to belong to the army. Canned beef was once produced here.(Photo #3)  After the war, a private company occupied the building until 1977. It was restored and refurbished in 1984 for preserving one third of the whole structure. It opened as a museum in 1985. At the refurbishment, a new concrete layer of walls was installed beneath the bricks for reinforcement. The large chimney represented the factory but was demolished due to possible collapse.
