This complex stands on steep slopes. The direction board on the site says it comprises of publicly owned and public corporation-run houses.

Publicly Owned Suzugamine Higashi Apartment Houses

#1
They are on a steep slope facing the east. The long slender wings run from north to south, standing in parallel with each other on different levels like stairs. Each wing has slightly different facade design details but as a whole, the wings display unity.

This slope is steeper, almost a precipice. To cope with the land features, the wings form a unique staircase appearance. Residents use the stairs between the wings to approach the entrance. There are no elevators, so the stairs look quite dominant comparing with the cases of current standard apartment complexes. The designs are not so special and only inexpensive residence units must have been aligned. But their sheer volume is overwhelming.

Public Corporation-Run Suzugamine Apartment Houses No. 3

#8
The low-rise apartment houses. The houses are arranged in zigzag, with a triangular balcony on the corner. Altogether, they display a unique bending appearance(photo #8). The two wings stand in parallel and there's a courtyard in-between. (photo #9 & #10)

Public Corporation-run Suzugamine Apartment Houses No. 2

#11
The balconies are made smaller and the concave and convex elevation surfaces are well designed, making them resemble European condominiums.

[Access]
TRAIN or TRAM: 20 min on foot from JR Shin-inokuchi station or Hiroden Shoko Center Iriguchi tram station. Riding a bus from the stations is easier due to steep slopes.
BUS: There are several routes which run via the Suzugamine Apartment Complex, leaving from the Hiroshima Bus Center, Shiyaku-sho mae, Shin-inokuchi station, or Alpark. It takes 25 min from the Hiroshima Bus Center. The routes are quite complicated, so check them in advance or ask the driver if the bus goes to Suzugamine Apartment Complex.
