This is a restaurant and residence built in a corner of a suburban residence
complex developed on a hill. The lot is on the peripheral of the heights
and separated into the upper and lower plots divided by a slope (fig #3).
It's inconvenient to have a standard house built here but the land has
a splendid view and costs less. Taking those conditions into consideration,
the architect used the slope, leaving the level grounds. The upper flat
is made into a parking lot and the lower one is left unused for possible
additional construction in the future.
The structure is quite simple. Six steel beams erected on the slope are
joined with slabs and on the top is a roof (fig #3). The store on the 1st
floor, using glass extensively, has a light buoyant make, and the terrace
is like a ship floating in the air.
It's rather away from downtown and not easy of access, but this openness
is remarkable. This building gives you a fresh recognition of building
a house on the slope. |
