This stands on a new highway extending toward the northern built-up area
of Hiroshima City. The building was originally a men's clothes store facing
the street. The original building was recycled almost as it was and renovated
to house new stores. SANBUICHI Hiroshi, a promising architect whose business
centers around Hiroshima, was in charge of the design.
The pleated curtains gently separate the outside and inside of the building.
As sun shades, "pergolas" are arranged outside. The pergolas
are made of stainless round bars and wood (photo #4) and each louver makes
a different angle. The summer sunlight is blocked effectively that way.
There's a terrace with tables and chairs. When the photo was taken, the
furniture was put away due to a party using the terrace exclusively. The
floor tiles are recycled asphalt pavement cut into proper sizes and natural
stones. |
