This hospital stands near Hiroshima Castle. Currently the building is not used as a hospital but as a museum. The adjacent building functions as a hospital wing.
YAMADA Mamoru designed a number of buildings for Post and Telecommunication
Ministry*. He showed different styles according to when he did the work.
When he designed this hospital wing, he did a lot of modernism architecture;
this hospital is rather simple in design, aiming to achieve an effect of
white box. The ferroconcrete building survived the blast of the A-bombing,
an invaluable legacy as this particular ministry's architectural style,
along with the former Nishi Branch of Hiroshima Central Telecommunication
Bureau and the former Electricity Laboratory of Post and Telecommunication
Ministry which he also designed. |

[Footnote]
*The Ministry of Post and Telecommunication was a governmental organization
(abolished in 1949) and YAMADA belonged to the section of construction
and maintenance, which was in charge of designing offices and facilities
for the Ministry. The section staffers including YAMADA did excellent designs;
they sent out the graceful Post and Telecommunication Architecture one after another.

This building is usually closed but could be entered by applying at the
reception counter of the Chugoku Postal Administration Office, standing
next to the former hospital. Procedures for holiday visits are not known.
