This building stands on a slope of a hill called Hijiyama. Hiroshima City built it to commemorate the 100 anniversary of RAI Sanyo, a scholar from the Edo period, after his death. The original roof was covered with tiles, different from the current square appearance. Inside were a statue of RAI Sanyo and others.

#2: The ornamental spire on top of the building was warped due to the A-bomb blast.
