Purpose of arch-hiroshima

This web site is created to introduce Hiroshima's architecture and Hiroshima as a city. It includes architectural data, photos, and the webmaster's comments and impressions.
Hiroshima as the A-bombed city is the fact you cannot ignore but it should be also recognized as a major modern city where one million people make their living. Remembering these two facts at the same time, the webmaster evaluates a city Hiroshima as well as its architecture based on his personal views. Interested? Then leave your cozy room and go visit the places. (Maps are here !) The same architecture, the same city will be regarded differently according to your sensitivity and personal background. The outing could be a chance for you to start thinking about your own place.
Feel free to send your comments, findings, and feedbacks on this web site to the message board.

Profile

makoto (webmaster of arch-hiroshima)

A Hiroshima native, Makoto was born in 1978. His parents held a wedding ceremony at the church designed by MURANO; his elementary school stands at close range of TANGE's Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park; the view from his house includes the Motomachi Apartment Complexes. Growing up under such circumstances, he, as a high school student, came to be interested in urban landscape and majored in city planning at college. Currently he works as a city planner in Tokyo. He started arch-hiroshima in 2002.
The web site presents architectural articles but he is in fact most interested in the fields of urban designing and area management.

jasmine (translator of arch-hiroshima)

jasmine at ANDO's water temple
Jasmine came to act as a translator of arch-hiroshima after she contacted the webmaster makoto by e-mail to get some architectural questions answered. (But she no longer remembers her own questions.) Her profession involves using English, her English skills as well as her general knowledge being rather decent. She loves Ando's architecture; also keen to visit and know more about places of interest and beauty. See her blog and know where her interest lies and what information she can give to you to enjoy the journey called life. To go to her blog, life is journey, click here.
